5" Jaw Hardtail

Generates 11,531 lbs of clamping force from just 100 ft-lbs of input — nearly 4× the Reed 205 and double the Snap-On
12+ inches of jaw openingmost capacity of any vise in the service-truck class
Fine-pitch screw design means less effort, more power — jerk the handle once and it holds
Survived 7+ miles of drag behind a pickup at 60 mph — pulled through mud, ruts, and washboard roads
Built-in water drainage: elevated slide and weep holes keep the dynamic jaw rust-free even in wet conditions
100 lbs lighter than the 614designed for truck mounting, portable setups, and mobile shops
Fully boxed dynamic jaw and straight-pull spindle — the same engineering DNA as the 614, scaled for the field
Thrust bearings on both sides of the spindle deliver smooth, low-friction operation in any condition
Tapered wedge swivel basenever spins under load, no matter how hard you crank
Handle is engineered to bend before the vise fails — a built-in safety valve, and fully replaceable in seconds
Every component is a replaceable part — no disposal, no sending it back, fix it on the job
Individually serialized — built with the care and accountability of a precision instrument
Ductile iron construction outperforms the gray iron used in vintage icons like the Reed 205
Used market is essentially nonexistentowners simply won't part with them

Built for the Field

The 510 was designed from the ground up for service trucks and field environments. It's been proven in one of the most brutal tests imaginable — dragged behind a pickup truck down a rough dirt road for 7+ miles at speeds up to 60 mph, through ruts, mud puddles, and washboard surfaces. After the test, it opened and closed smoothly. Only cosmetic paint was lost. No cracks. No bent shaft. No seized slide.

Weather & Water Resistant

The 510 features an elevated slide design with built-in weep holes. Water that enters the jaw channel sits below the slide surface — the dynamic jaw rides on an "island" above the waterline. Moisture drains out on its own rather than pooling against metal and causing rust. Field vises see rain, mud, and condensation daily. The 510 is designed to handle all of it.

Exceptional Clamping Efficiency

In head-to-head testing against two of the most respected vises ever made — the Reed 205 and the Snap-On 1765 — the 510 wasn't just better. It wasn't close. At 100 ft-lbs of input torque: Reed 205 produced ~2,700 lbs. Snap-On 1765 produced ~6,200 lbs. The Fireball 510 produced 11,531 lbs. That's 4× the Reed and nearly double the Snap-On from the same input force — because of the fine-pitch screw, thrust bearings, and straight-pull design working together.

Smart, Serviceable Design

The handle on the 510 is engineered to be the first thing that fails — acting as a mechanical fuse that protects everything downstream. It's fully replaceable in seconds. Every component is available as a replacement part. No planned obsolescence. No sending the vise back to a factory. Fix it on the truck, on the job site, wherever you are.

Manageable Weight

At ~165 lbs, the 510 is lighter than the 614 by 100 lbs. That matters when you're mounting it to the back of a service truck, bolting it to a portable workstation, or moving it between locations. It still has more than enough mass to absorb vibration and stay planted under heavy impacting — but it's practical for mobile applications in a way that the 614 is not.

Largest Opening in Its Class

The 510's jaw opening exceeds 12 inches — more than any comparable vise in the service-truck class. The Reed 205 maxes out around 10 inches. The Snap-On 1765 is similar. More opening means more workpiece capacity, fewer limitations, and more jobs you can take on without switching setups.

Proven in Competitive Testing

The 510 went up against decades-old legends — vises with serious collector prestige and reputations built over generations. It outperformed all of them across every measurable category: clamping force, opening capacity, and field durability.

Way grooves underneath the front jaw slide keep vise steady and stable even when fully extended.

Swivel base locks down with two wedge nuts captured in a cast iron raceway.

Red industrial tool with a rectangular opening, likely for shaping materials.

Base and body cast from high tensile strength ductile iron.

The vise spindle and nut are in a straight pull configuration where the nut is able to distribute the compressive load in all directions through the hardtail.

This is in contrast to most wedge nut designs where load is transferred as a shear force to a single point in the vise through a spindle nut that is wedged into the body.

Maintenance

  • Use grease on the slides for lubrication and corrosion resistance.
  • Apply light layer of anti-corrosion coating or oil to other exposed parts such as handles and jaws for protection against corrosion, especially if used outdoors.

Choosing the Right Vise

Choose the HTV 614 if...

• Your vise lives on a permanent bench in a production shop, machine shop, or
industrial facility
• You regularly work with large parts that exceed the capacity of a standard vise
• Your work involves heavy impacting, pressing, or torquing where vise failure is
unacceptable
• You want the world's strongest bench vise and want to own it once, for life
• You're replacing a heavy vintage vise (Reed 106, Wilton 800s, Morgan 8) and
want modern engineering with available parts

Choose the HTV 510 if...
• Your vise lives on a service truck, trailer, or job site rather than a permanent shop
bench
• You need maximum performance at minimum weight — every pound matters for
your setup
• Field durability and weather resistance are non-negotiable requirements
• You're replacing a Reed, Snap-On, or similar service vise and want a provable
upgrade
• You want the same Fireball engineering in a mobile-ready format
